Could the new BRZ STi be the reborn Impreza 22B?

If they added a turbo and AWD could it be a spiritual successor? Maybe throw some gold rims, big wing, and a hood scoop too?

It would be a sight to see, but I was under the impression that the BRZ can't accommodate AWD.

Give them another few hundred million to re-engineer the chassis to accommodate AWD, and sure.

Was the 22b also equal in fun to a V8 Mustang?

True. It would probably ruin the cars handling with the weight of AWD

No, it literally won't fit in the chassis.

Then it gets priced out of affordability for me. Guess I'll wait for the new WRX if I want an AWD rocket

I wouldn't be surprised if subaru starts to move the WRX upmarket with the next generation. I'd expect it to start around $30k to give it some separation from the BRZ.

I am sorry... but when will the point sink in?

BRZ, FR-S, and GT-86 CANNOT accomodate AWD.

In order to change it to accommodate AWD, one would have to undo every change made to the chassis, and revert it BACK to an Impreza, which defeats the point of BRZ's existence.

BRZ is not turbocharged. It is not AWD, it is not a WRC rally car, it cannot be the successor to the 22B STI.

Them's the facts, JACK.

AWD... Whatever. Don't need it.

Turbo: YES, IT NEEDS IT. If I wanted something cool that handled and accelerated like a slightly-modified Miata, I'd go buy a slightly modified Miata. Give me the Turbo, Toyota/Subaru.

Without AWD, and it will never get AWD, it will NEVER be a successor to 22B STI, which is the point, not whether people need it to be AWD.

I still stand beside my premise that a well-tuned and healthy flat 6 engine, with 100hp/liter, at 3.4 Liters, and 34ohp.

FA20DIT's current top OEM tune in Japan is 296hp. An H6 is a smoother, and more powerful option.

If they put 320+ HP in that engine (with or without turbo(s)) then I would contemplate purchasing one. I like a car that can handle curves, but if it has a 7+ second 0-60 time, I'm not interested. Get it into the low 5's (from the factory) and we'll talk.

320-340hp, with ~3000lb curb weight... and $30-32K.

Would beat the pants off of every other 6-cylinder coupe short of Porsche Cayman, on power to weight ratio alone, let alone performance per dollar.

This would be a no-brainer in my opinion. It's a gorgeous car, it just needs more go to match it's show.
